SSL Certificate Pricing and Order Form
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) Certificates are used to secure communications between the browser and the web server. They perform a critical function in E-commerce and come in several different formats which we cover below. There are also special SSL certificates used for securing email communications and signing code.
GeoTrust is one of the world's largest SSL certificate providers, with more than 100,000 customers in over 150 countries. Its product line is extremely popular with small businesses. Verisign owns GeoTrust.
Thawte is a leading provider of domain, business and extended validation SSL certificates. Their SSL and code signing digital certificates are used globally to secure servers, provide data encryption, authenticate users, protect privacy and assure online identifies through stringent authentication and verification processes. Its brand is particularly strong in Europe, and appeals to European businesses. Verisign owns Thawte.
The VeriSign SSL certificate brand resonates very well with large companies and corporations that want to obtain the highest levels of security possible. Verisign owns both Thawte and GeoTrust.
The process for generating code signing certificates differs based on the certificate type. Please read our Code Signing Information Page before ordering a code signing certificate.
Some customers prefer to obtain a SSL certificate from someone other than the above. If you are unable to generate you own CSR and install the certificate on one of our servers we will do it for you.
There are two types of Certificate authorities (CAs). There are Root CAs and Intermediate CAs. A certificate signed by a Root CA is implicitly trusted by most web browsers. A certificate signed by an Intermediate CA may not be implicitly trusted by most web browsers and they require an Intermediate CA certs be installed on the server. Installing an Intermediate CA signed certificate on a web server or load balancer usually requires installing a number of certificates (one for the server against the Intermediate CA and one of the Intermediate CA against a Root CA). If the certificate provider you select requires a chained certificate be installed and if we run into problems there will be a $25 surcharge for the extra work involved. Most inexpensive certificate providers use chained certificates as they are not a Root CA. They are not in the security business, providing certificates is just a sideline for them. There is no guarantee that we can install all 3rd party chained certificates.
